the museum

The Salmon Bothy Museum is housed in what were the ground floor ice house chambers used in the salmon fishing operation. Our strategy has been to create a museum and exhibition which you can enjoy and explore at three levels.

	The first level is the main exhibition itself where basic information is presented in an easy to absorb series of illustrated panels with accompanying artefacts.
	The second level, which will be in operation as soon as funding has been secured, will be an audio system which can be used as you walk round the exhibition to give you more information about the exhibits on show.
	The third level, which we have called 'Digging Deeper', provides documented information about the exhibits and indeed other material which may not be on show (due to space limitations). We will provide a service whereby copies of this documented information can be obtained for a small charge.

Each chamber is dedicated to a subject area. These subjects will be regularly reviewed and updated to accommodate more information as we receive it and also to ensure that this is a living, breathing and vibrant experience. Our aim is to work hard to avoid dusty cabinets and ageing panels on the walls!

Initially, the three chambers will be dealing with:

	Chamber 1 - Portsoy Harbour
	Chamber 2 - Portsoy's trade and industry
	Chamber 3 - the Salmon fishing Industry

We are constantly looking for more information about Portsoy and area, the people and industries that made up its history, and wherever possible, examples of the artefacts that shaped that history.

If you have information or items that you might be prepared to let us see or have, please contact us. However, we must point out that our space is limited and we are anxious not to simply store items that may never see the light of day.
