Music will play its usual key part in the
Festival, but this year with particular focus on shanty.
To lead this
element we are delighted to be joined by Bob Walser, the internationally
recognised expert and performer of shanty from the US (Bob will be coming
to Portsoy having just performed at Mystic Seaport, Maine). (more)
Over the weekend we will also have a number of shanty performers from
far and wide.
But dwelling on music for a moment, our music, song and dance coordinator
Moira Stewart has pulled out all the stops to put together a great
programme for the whole weekend. Full details will be posted.
BIG NEWS is the Friday Night Showcase Concert which will be headed up
by the fabulous
Donnie Munro Band.

This year sees the
further development of the Ballads and Bairns programmes in
conjunction with Aberdeenshire Council and the Youth Music Initiative.
Also new, funded by Scottish Arts Council, we are holding instrumentalists
workshops with participants also performing at the Friday Afternoon
Concert at the Wally Green. More ...
In addition to the Friday Night Showcase Concert,
there is the Saturday Evening Ceilidh and non-stop programme of music song and dance at
the harbourside, Salmon Bothy, Wally Green and Loch Soy.
