1. Portsoy

THE 17th CENTURY HARBOUR

(Tune: The Wheel of Fortune)

see the music ... listen to the tune

When you stand on Portsoy harbour
And you look out to the sea
Sometimes you can see the sunset
Shining pink it glows on me

Our harbour was built in the seventeenth century
But by who it is not known
Lots of creatures like to swim there
Splashing in their ocean home

There's mackerel, crab and sometimes dolphins
Lobsters, seals and jellyfish
If you go for your tea in the Boyne Hotel
They'll serve you a fish in a fancy dish

2. Macduff

THE PET SHOP IN MACDUFF

(Tune: The Muckin o' Geordie's Byre - Jimmy MacBeath style)

see the music ... listen to the tune

There was a big tough bunch o hamsters
fa swaggered aboot and behaved like gangsters
They were a scary bunch o bamsters
At the pet shop in Macduff.
They tried to pick on the crocodile
Fa licked his lips wi an evil smile
We'll no be seein them for a while
At the pet shop in Macduff.

There was big fat hairy spider
At fell intil a bottle o cider
Ye never saw onything mair pie-eyed-er
At the pet shop in Macduff.
The spider got sae bleezin drunk he
Tried to get aff wi the monkey
It's a really cool and funky
Pet shop in Macduff.

The animals aa gaithered roun
The dogs and wolves howled oot a tune
The budgie danced wi the big baboon
At the pet shop in Macduff.
The horses their guitars did strum
The bees and skunks began to hum
The gerbils banged on the big bass drum
At the pet shop in Macduff.

LET THE STARFISH GO

(Tune: The Ballad of Johnny Ramensky)

see the music ... listen to the tune

I was a little starfish on the ocean floor
Noo I'm in a tankie, and I can't get out the door.

Alley ee alley ay, alley oo alley o
Open up your gates of glass and let the starfish go

I was a little starfish on the ocean bed
I strayed into a lobster creel, noo I'm somewhere else instead

My brothers and my sisters, my aunts and uncles too
Are the colours of the rainbow, purple, pink and blue

I fear no living creature as through the sea I waft
Don't you touch my bairnies, cos they're just sma and saft.
If I was a bairnie I'd squeeze through any space
Now I'm old and crusty and I can't get out this place.

3. Whitehills

HEAVE AWA' THE CREELS

(Tune: The Bonny Lass o' Fyvie)

see the music ... listen to the tune

When my grandfaither was a wee, wee lad,
biding whaur the hills are fite,
Hitler and his freends cam' fae bombin' Aiberdeen,
And hit Fitehills in the middle o' the night

Auld Sandy Smart awoke wi' a start
His queets were as yokie as queets could be.
Auld Sandy kent fu' weel whit they meant -
There was trouble brewing at the distillery

'Heave awa' the creels,' comes the fisherman's cry,
'Heave awa' the ploo,' cries the fairmer Oh
Heave awa' the cask that filled Sandy's flask,
And left him floatin' in the harbour Oh

Noo auld Sandy's up and loups on his bike.
Mak's for the warm rosy glow in the sky.
He's got there oot o' puff,wi' a throat that's afa' rough,so he's
Filled his flask fae the Boyndie nearby.

Sic' was his drouth , wi' the flask tae his mooth,
It's slipped ower his throat wi' a michty haup.
He wished he'd noticed quicker , theburn was full o' liquor,
When intae the Boyndie wi' a hiccup he's couped.

Early next day , a fisher in the bay
Saw what he tok for a big stra' bale
He's reeled in his catch..., then gi'ed his pow a scratch ...
It was Sandy blinking like an auld beached whale.

4. Portsoy

THE SONG OF THE POWDER MONKEY

(Tune: Dainty Davie)

see the music ... listen to the tune

Chorus: That's the life of a powder monkey
Should his man o' war be sunk
He'll live to fight another day,
The braw wee powder monkey.

If you can climb a tarry rope,
Quick and nimble to the top.
A jolly sort who'll never mope.
You'll be a powder monkey.

'Action stations!' came the cry
Got to keep your powder dry
Salt box dragged to cannon side
By the powder monkey.

With blood and gore up to the neck
We spread more sand upon the deck.
Though the poor old ship's a wreck
Stands strong the powder monkey.

Admiral Lord Nelson died
A sniper's bullet to his side.
Restored our honour, strength and pride
In the line of duty.

5. Ordiquhill

Chorus: Past the mill and in by Cornhill
See the coos an lambs at play.
Aa the wye to Ordiquhill
Twas in the bonnie month o' May.

Runnin hame frae school sae fast
To see the horses in the park
Gie them neeps and pails o' watter
Get them in afore it's dark.

Walkin in the wids wi Grandad
Ask aboot the flooers an ferns.
If you're lucky fin some tadpoles
In aboot the Boyndie Burn.

We ging swimming in the summer
Eat some pieces on the bank.
Tak oor tadpoles hame at nicht
An pit them in a braw gless tank.

And the floodlights dimly start to glow, for the show at Foggieloan

The Foggie Show is wonderful, it's ACE, it's COOL, it's better than school
We've even got a mechanical bull at the Show in Foggieloan.

On Friday night we rush aboot, looking all our entries oot,
In hopes they'll win, wi'oot a doot, a prize at Foggieloan.

There's fruit and flooers and giant neeps. Scones and pancakes, piles o' sweets, that
Only judges get to eat, at the Show in Foggieloan.

The world record - it was Foggies -
One hundred and fifty eight dancing doggies, and they
Say next year we'll dae't wi' moggies
At the Show in Foggieloan.

The toon o' Banff by the northern sea
Is a bonnie place for you and me
Tae state the case conclusively
There's loads to do in Banff.

Whenever we have the time to skate,
Ye'll find us by the playground gate,
Doing air walks with our mates,
And heel flips on our boards.

Whenever we have time to surf,
We take our boards to the Moray Firth, and
Ride the waves for all our worth.
There's loads to do in Banff.

Whenever it's a windy day,
You'll catch us on the first fairway, taking aim
At seagulls in the bay.
There's loads to dae in Banff.

You'll get nae barley sugar the day
Have you got your gas mask and plimsolls?

Though there's the black oot, there's maybe mair rations,
Butter and eggs and tatties for mashin
Remember us aa, chin up and keep cheery,
Far, far away though your gaun.

Keep yourself warm, mind your wee brother,
Noo dae as you're tellt, and write tae yer mither

Knock Hill was a volcano long ago,
Dinosaurs roamed round here long ago.
Well they liked to eat each other,
Father, sister, brother.
They liked to eat each other long ago.

The Romans built a camp here long ago
They built it in the rain and frost and snow.
But they thought it was too cold
And they fled young and old
They thought it was too cold long ago.

William Hay built the Hay Memorial Hall
He thought being an architect was a ball.
But they thought he was a failure
So they sent him to Australia
They thought he was a failure long ago.

The distillery got flooded so they say.
And the people talk about it to this day.
They got a wee bit frisky
As they swam around in whisky
And the heads were sore in Cornhill all next day.

E. THE TOUR O' BANFF

The play park wi' the 'Witches Hat', the surf club and our homes

Banff it has a famous ghost 'Green Lady o' Duff Hoose'
She died in eighteen ninety seven after her dog got loose

She wanders in the woods and halls in her dress o' green
She's looked under every log but still nae dogs been seen

Now ye've had a tour o' Banff please don't go away
We're friendly folk who'll share a joke so come back another day

9. King Edward

THE SEASONS IN KING EDWARD

(Tune: The Overgate [major])

see the music ... listen to the tune

In autumn in King Edward
When leaves fall off the trees
We sweep them into piles
That come higher than our knees
The weathers wet and windy
So we just stay inside
Sometimes it gets quite stormy
So we all run and hide

Ricky doo dum day, doo dum day
Ricky, ricky, doo dum day

In winter in King Edward
We like this season best of all
We build snowmen, make snow angels and throw a few snowballs
The sheep out in the fields
Are chewing on their neeps
While badgers, mice and hedgehogs
Are curled up fast asleep

In springtime in King Edward
We see the flowers grow
We play out in the sunshine
With all the friends we know
On our bikes and trampolining and pony riding too
New lambs are being born
And the farmer has lots to do

In summer in King Edward
Our holidays are here
And everyone in school
Likes to give a great big cheer
The farmers are all busy cutting down their crops
We have more time to play outside
Because the weathers hot
